Every dog I have ever known, and I've owned several over the years.. have eaten out of the litter box... and occasionally their own. Is it kinda gross, well yeah. Is it a crime against fucking humanity? I think not. What a ridiculous reaction.

By the way, friends of mine have brought dogs over to my now cat only apartment, and their dogs need to be herded away from the litter box ass well. Dogs dig on cat shit munchies is all.
