First Snow

We had snow last week, but it was so light and the weather was too warm that it melted as soon as it hit the ground. Today we got our first *real* snow fall. The weather is calling for freezing rain and more snow.

My husband is out in that shit right now getting gas for me and picking up my lunch for tonight. I'm leaving for work real soon, and I'll be taking the long way, avoiding all highways. I can't wait until Ottawa cools down to a normal winter temperature and only snow falls from the sky. I broke my pelvis in a car accident 2 years ago because we got caught in freezing rain. Ugh I hate this weather.

I love the look of your neighborhood!

And yeah, freezing rain sucks. =\ I love wicked weather but I gotta draw he line somewhere lol.

It's supposed to get real cold out here soon too. Chilly today, t-storms tomorrow. Go figure.

We're on a nice street... away from major roads... it's nice and quiet. :)

Yeah it sucks bad! lol

drive safe! it's actually not that bad out. just take your time.

It was just raining when I left. It felt a little warmer too. I gave myself extra time to get to work and I was here 15 minutes sooner than I was going for. lol Oh, well I made it here. :) It was a good time to change shifts anyways; the other guy can drive home while it's still warm.

I can't believe we got snow in Boston before you guys!

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The rest of the province and other parts of Canada have been getting snow for over a month. It's just been a warm year so far and most of it has melted away. Ottawa is famous for freezing rain right through to the beginning of January. We get next to no snow compared to my home town. I'd take snow over freezing rain any day!

Wow, snow already??? The light dusting are pretty shots though ;)

The ground has been freezing lately, but we've really had snow. It feels late to me becuase I am used to having snowbanks by now... not in this city though. ;)

I can't believe I'm going from 35 degree weather to a Canadian winter! My body won't know what the hell is going on! Hee ;)

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah you will have to adjust to that. That reminds me of when my husband came back from Africa, and a couple weeks later he went up to Yellowknife to work. From +50C to -70C. I was in Yellowknife for a couple weeks in December too... I will never go there again! lol

Snow!!!!!! I would LOVE a white Christmas. Here it snows maybe about 100 flakes every 5 years or so, and it never sticks, it just melts when it hits the ground :(

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoy the snow scenery. I get sick of it after a while, but it's a nice break from the heat too.

Freezing rain is the worst. I'd much rather have mounds of snow than freezing rain. Thankfully though, I have not had any of either so far this year. Only a matter of time though.

I hate winter.

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's how I feel. I'd rather have to shovel out the car before work than worry about sliding off the roads. :S I hate freezing rain, but it's inevitable at this time of year.

We've had plenty of snow here today too, Robin, (but then, you and I are pretty close). ;)

And now that it is dark outside, it's so beautiful to look at!

And yes, tomorrow will be much warmer, (they broadcast 17 degrees at Joliette).

So the snow will melt! (but soon, Robin, very soon, it will stay! :D )

I agree with you on the freezing rain. I went to the convenient store,(which is very close to my house), and I could feel the harsh little blows on my face).

I think all our snow is gone already. It was pouring rain when I drove to work. We should be getting more snow soon though. It was windy here too... makes it quite chilly.

I wish the weather was better for you. Although I can't say I share your dislike of snow. I love snow, when I don't have to travel in it. But here in South Carolina we don't get a lot of it. Our winter tends to consist of a lot of rain and ice. I'm sure that if I lived somewhere that it snowed a lot I would have a dislike for it too, well that and I have never been in an accident with the injuries you sustained. Drive safe sweetie.

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't hate the snow, I hate the freezing rain. I actually enjoy shovelling the driveway... when I'm not late for work that is. lol I just wish it would hurry up and become winter instead of this inbetween, scary driving conditions stuff.

[identity profile] shell-ee02.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I completely understand. As I said, we tend to get a lot of ice and freezing rain here very little snow. That is the only reason I miss Nebraska we lived there for 2 years and they see lots of snow and it's dry snow, if we get snow here it's wet. But that is all I miss about being in Nebraska.

Freezing rain is horrible. I once had to drive in it for 4 hours (a drive that was normally 30 minutes). I was so scared!

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
I can imagine. Freezing rain is my biggest enemy. :(

[identity profile] giruff.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
*is jealous*

I love snow!

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'll send you some once winter finally comes. :)

[identity profile] jbredrebel.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
yuck - freezing rain! i remember the days having to walk to school and falling on the ice and hitting my head! ..bleagh winter sucks! it's too damp to snow here in ireland.. it gets really cold, but we don't really get snow. sucky! i FROZE today.. hope you get some proper snow soon!

[identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com 2005-11-17 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
hehe Yes, I can't wait until there's enough of it to shovel. I hope the rain stops now until spring. ;)

[identity profile] angelavalon.livejournal.com 2005-11-18 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's the best kind of snow - the kind that melts before it hits the ground! Let me tell you, the dusting you got on the ground in the pics is about as much as I want to get at all this winter after last year, lol.

[identity profile] mysticchyna.livejournal.com 2005-11-19 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
i normally like the first couple of snowfalls, but then, winter can buggar off. lol

[identity profile] prinzessbtrfly.livejournal.com 2005-11-20 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
AND i still want to come live with you!!
just kidding! :)
