Welcome all the new people to my journal! I look forward to getting to know you. I've been reading my friends page and already getting good vibes. :D

Tonight is my last midnight shift. I'm just chowing on my supper now... a Chinese combo dish from the grocery store. I still have 8 hours to go. My shifts are 12 hours long from 6:00 to 6:00. The last day is the longest. hehe

Sometimes I wander the halls a bit at work. At night there is not much to do and I go a little stir crazy. This building is a bit creepy though. It's hard to belive it's been about a year since my boss died in the gym. A month after he died, someone else died in this building. I often wonder how many other people have passed away at work. The lights are all programmed to go off around 7:00pm, and some nights I just get a strange feeling. The elevators are the worst.

I have no plans for my days off... except maybe sleep! I'll probably take the pooper to the dog park. My husband will have 3 days off with me. They recently changed his hours at work, so our schedules don't mesh as well as they did. It might be too early to say, but I don't think I like his new schedule. He used to work 7 shifts (8 hours) in a row and get 4 - 5 days off. Now he works 6 days and only gets 3 days off. It could be worse though so I won't complain!

Yesterday morning I was blinded by 3 cars on my way home from work. This was at 6 in the morning, so they were all heading downtown to work. The moon was still out (I wished I had a camera), but it was light out at that time. I couldn't believe people still drive with their headlights on at that time in the CITY. lol Save those for the unlit country roads please! And they were following other cars and didn't notice their highbeams till they faced me... even then it was a delayed reaction. But 3 cars in one morning? Maybe Tim Hortins was closed and they didn't get their morning coffee. lol

I haven't seen my husband for more than 10 minutes in the last 3 days. Tonight was the first time I got a kiss. lol

Man, I really miss having tab browsing (FireFox). I have so many IE windows open. We could use a new mouse here too. It has a mind of its own.

Sometimes it works out great and we have our days off together. But there are times like these shifts where we are working completely opposite. We will have our days off together though so we'll have to make up for lost time. lol

Yeah, I think about that all the time. This building is so old. I wonder who died here that I don't know about.

Thanks!

At first I loved midnight shifts because it was easier to sleep in and stay up late. But now I'm finding it hard on the body. I've been working here for 3 years. I still find the day shifts hard though because I have to be up by 4:45am and I don't get home till 6:45pm.

I can relate to the never seeing your spouse thing. I mostly work 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and my husband usually works 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Oh yikes. Those shifts sound bad too. Sometimes it works out for us, other times we hardly recognize each other. lol I'm looking forward to our days off together now.

I worked graveyard for 4 months many moons ago, I never got used to it. When I did have a day off I would sleep the clock round and when you wanted to go out the bars didn't open until 11 a.m.

I think if I was working by myself in an empty building in the middle of the night I would suceed in scaring myself. Sometimes the imagination can work a little too well. ;-D

Hope you and hubby get some quality time in over your days off.

I've been working here for 3 years now. The shifts rotate... 2 day shifts followed by 2 night shifts. The day after the last night shift I sleep till around 4:00pm. I'm not used to it either. Some times I wonder how I can drive home after a night shift.

Oh man, I always scare myself. The elvevators here are eerie. They open and close and travel to the different floors without any prompting. I'm curious to see how they are programmed because I wonder why they move like that at night. There used to be one this floor that would constantly open and close *ding ding ding*. We're in a closed off area so you only heard it if you went to the bathroom, but it was still freaky.

And my coworker just scared the bajeesus outta me. lol I came in downstairs into a dark room expecting it to be empty and I saw something move and nearly pooped myself. lol

Thanks, I can't wait to go home and sleep now!

Ohhh creepy! I've seen too many horror movies to be able to work in a place like that. :P

lol I love horrors too. I always get creeped out here at night. Sometimes it feels like I am being followed.

Yeah, I'm like a zombie when I'm working. I don't even have time to cook dinner at home. I just work then sleep. lol

Thanks for adding me too. :)

I'm trying not to think about sleep right now 'cause I have another 3 1/2 hours to go. :( Oh I bet my bed is comfy and warm. :) hehe I could sleep forever if allowed.

I love tab browsing. I use IE at home because some microsoft sites will not work in FireFox. Otherwise I'd always tab browse. :) At work I have at least 10 sites open just 'cause I've got nothing better to do that surf. lol

Yeah, I haven't seen you either. But now I'm on night shifts so I'm probably working when you're online. Maybe I'll see you on ICQ in the next couple of days. My body clock will be right messed up for a couple days so we'll have a chance to talk. lol Hope you're doing good too!!

ugh your poor body clock!!! i can't believe i am even talking to a canadian at this hour! i'm hardly awake myself.. it's 9.14am here.. my work day has just started.. eaaaggh!!

I soooo cannot wait to go home and sleep. This is my last one for 5 1/2 days. Everyone at work calls it "6 days off," but we don't get off till 6am, and then sleep all day. So you write off the first day off as a sleep day. hehe Well at least I'm almost done now. Another hour and a half. At this point in the shift, time goes slow it almost stops. :P

ugh i would totally hate that!!!!
my body works on a strict clock. i have to go to sleep every night at 11.30. and i need to sleep until 9, but obviously for work reasons i can only sleep til 8. had a good sleep last night, but i am still yawning like mad. ugh. so i couldn't hack what you do.. i'd feel sick all the time! you will love hitting the bed i'd say!

My hubby works midshift too, and next week he starts doing the 12 hour shifts. (In the US Air Force) I'm not working right now so my sleeping pattern is all backwards too, sleep in the day and up all night. You're in the Canadian Army right?

That's pretty creepy about the deaths at your work place! I'd be a little bit creeped out... :)

12 hour shifts...fun! I used to work in a hospital doing 16's...I'm so glad that's over with!

Date: 2006-02-23 08:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com
And I thought 12 hours were long! I couldn't do 16. Yeah, my husband and I are both in the Canadian Forces. Sometimes my sleep pattern is messed up when I'm on days off just 'cause I'm trying to conform to hours so that I can spend time with him.

I work graveyard too - and we have a ghost here. He hasn't shown up for awhile but when he does he really freaks me out. he is a shadow type of ghost. =\

From: [identity profile] minxy-baby.livejournal.com
Oh man, that must be scary. I believe in ghost, but I don't think I've ever seen any. Sometimes it feels like I am being followed.

I used to work nights as security in a hospital. They had a building that everyone said was haunted, and I can remember swearing that I head voices or footsteps there. I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me or not, but I have never worked midnight shift again...lol.

It looks like you'll be able to spend more time with the hubby now, so thats good :)

lol I'd probably quit midnights after that too. I am great at scaring myself into believing I hear things or see shadows.

Next time, before the kiss, give him a firm two-second ass slap. You could call it foreplay!
