The Canadian dollar is the highest it's been in 31 years. I know that this can pose problems for Canadian businesses, but seeing the dollar so high excites me.

The dollar today:

1 Canadian dollar = 1.0056 US dollars

1 US dollar = 0.9944 Canadian dollars
I was reading comments in the latest [livejournal.com profile] news post, and came across something worth sharing.

After buying a Permanent Account, [livejournal.com profile] pendo is left with 72 days of Paid Account time that he can transfer to another user. He has set up a fun competition to find someone to gift the Paid Account time to.

Do you want a chance at Paid Account time?

Head on over to [livejournal.com profile] pendo's journal to participate!

And thank you [livejournal.com profile] kawanee for the virtual gift!
Those of you with paid accounts, did you see the notice about LJ reimbursing members with paid accounts for 1 week?

See this post for details: http://community.livejournal.com/paidmembers/18838.html
Last night I wanted to take a bath. I guess everyone else in the hotel had the same idea. After waiting around naked for more than an hour, I decided to use the kettle to fill the tub. I got my husband to make us a cup of tea and pour the remainder of the water into the tub... with me in it. Now I have a huge red spot on the side of my right knee, and a blister about the size of a loonie in the center. Ouchie!

This afternoon we went shopping and I looked at maternity clothes. I wanted to get a coat because I froze my butt last night when I took Vicki for a walk. The Bay wanted $300 - $400 for a winter jacket that I will wear for only 2 months of my life. Jees! So we looked through Sears even though they don't have a maternity department. I found a huge coat with a polar fleece liner for $113. It will last me from now till winter because it's got a lot of room for me to grow, and I can add or remove the liner according to the weather. I am really happy with it. :)

We just got back from School for Scoundrels. I have to say, it was really good! I thought it was going to be so-so, but I laughed so hard throughout the movie.

Tonight we're planning to go down to the hotel's restaurant for dinner. They start serving the Thanksgiving menu tonight so we're going for the turkey dinner. I wasn't going to cook a fancy dinner for us at home, so today we do our Thanksgiving holiday. I still can't decide what dessert I will end the meal with. Deep Dish Pumpkin Pie, Apple Crepe Cake, or Layered Maple and Chocolate Mousse Cake? Ah so hard to choose!
Wow so much has not been going on! lol

Last night, my husband said he had a surprise for me to do with my computer. He said the surprise would fix my problem (keyboard didn't have enough power to operate more than 1 USB, not having enough USB ports, and fiddling with cables in the back of my computer - which the dog loved to pull out). I went downstairs to watch TV, and he came and got me. "For some reason, a lot of your desktop icons disappeared. Log in and tell me what you think." Holy crap, that's not my computer at all! lol He gave me his "linux toy" computer. It's brand new, and I've been saying my old one was too slow for me now. He installed pretty much everything back for me, and he even saved all my files so I can hardly notice a difference! I'm now operating on Windows XP Professional. What a nice guy! And he said this was just surprise part one. I feel so spoiled!

So, I'm off work now. Yesterday was technically my first day off, but I didn't get home till 6 am so I only count it as half a day. ;)

I can't believe I'm up so early! I didn't hear hubby shower, but I heard him leave the room and then I couldn't get back to sleep. Last night I told him I wouldn't be able to fall asleep at the same time as him because I just got off midnights, but I fell asleep right away.

That's cool though! I've been awake since 5:30am, and up since 6:00am. I have the whole day!

I'm actually sitting here waiting for the sun to come up. Vicki and I are going to the dog park this morning. It looks like it's bright enough out now, so I'm gonna get out of these pj's and take off.

Hubby is on day shifts right now. We are working completely opposite shifts for at least a month. It was about time, I guess, since we had a good run of similar shifts.

I've been fooling around with my userinfo codes. I made a private journal entry and I keep tweaking it till I get it how I like before I change my userinfo for good. That's been keeping me busy. :) And I love to learn new things.

OK, time to go!

We got our 4GB white iPod Nanos today. [livejournal.com profile] nodeg subscribed to an audio book site so I downloaded the book they featured on Oprah that I really wanted to read. It's called A Million Little Pieces, and is 10 hours long. This iPod is really cute. lol We are expecting a car adapter thingy and I'm getting an arm band for it to take to the gym. Hubby picked out the arm band for me, all I know is it's purple.

I have NO music files at all. I just got used to having my hard drive formatted every 6 months to a year that I stopped copying my CD's over or downloading music. I stopped buying music too because we never setup a stereo in the house... I'm gonna blame that on [livejournal.com profile] nodeg too. lol I used to be huge into music, but I've learned to live without it. And now here I am with an iPod and I feel almost clueless. Hubby showed me a few sites so I'll have to see if I can start building a collection again. I don't even know what new music I'd like. The radio stations here still play the same 10 songs from the 90's. When they do play new songs, they pick one and play it for months on end until I'm ready to scream. hahah That would be why I love CBC so much. That and they don't have commercials (except for the political messages they are obligated to play).

What kind of music (artists or specific songs) do you like? Do you know of any good web sites to get me started?

I'll get a picture of my iPod tomorrow and show you the engraving. lol My husband did it and it's really cute.
Holy crap! Look what I just got!!!!!! My husband had this waiting for me when I got home from work.

1) Sorry I'm early this year. *********************************** 2)But you Deserve an early X-Mas.

3) I love spreading cheer all year round. *********************** 4)Besides Coal is on sale on October. :)

*rip* *rip* *crumple* *rip* )
I've been busy today. I started out with those pretzels and then made a delicious dinner... late night dinner, but as my mom always says: "Good food takes time to prepare!" I made manicotti, fresh dinner rolls, and a roasted garlic butter for the rolls.

This picture doesn't do my manicotti justice. It's unbelievably good! I can't even describe how wonderful the whole house smells. I've had the oven on all day!

What's for dessert? Glad you asked! )

I got my husband to grab some groceries for me, and he brought me back a cookbook. Awww what a sweetie! It's a low carb Rachael Ray book. He knows how much I love her show. She is a little too enthusiastic at times, but I think it adds to the ambiance of the show. She has very similar tastes as me, and I always learn something new when I watch her. Her show is awesome! I've been so busy cooking, that I haven't had a chance to read my new cookbook yet! Well, this definitely makes up for my broken espresso maker, but we won't go there. :P

Before I leave, I'll just add that if anyone wants my favourite Manicotti recipe, just let me know and I'll post it tomorrow. I can also give you the dinner roll recipe, but it's from my bread machine book. And if you want the Tiramisu recipe (it uses raw eggs), I can share it as well. I prefer to put my recipes through a taste test first, so I'll have to let you know how the Tiramisu came out because this is my first time ever trying it.
White water rafting was awesome! We checked into OWL Rafting at 8:30am, had about a 20 minute safety briefing at 9am, and were loaded on the bus at 10am to drive to the top of the river. The whole rafting ride took about 5 hours. Hubby and I each rented a wet suit jacket for $5 a piece and I wasn't the slightest bit cold. Some people had only their cotton t-shirt to wear and froze for most of it. The water was warm and the temperature was about 25°C, although the sun was hiding behind the clouds.

We floated down the Ottawa River in a 12-man raft. The river runs right between the Ontario and Quebec provinces. We hit the biggest rapid first. Actually we hit it 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. ;) The other rapids weren't quite as big, but were still loads of fun. Our raft didn't tip at all. A couple other 12-man rafts lost the occaisonal person on the big waves. There was an 8-man raft that tipped almost everytime it went through a rapid. I don't think the 8-man had rope handles inside to hang onto like our 12-man did. The 8-man was also smaller and the guide hit the rapids just right to add to the fun. Our rafting guide was the leader so we went through first everytime. It was really funny to turn back and watch the other rafts lose people or to see the 8-man tip. There were times where they let us jump out of the raft to float with the current for a few hunder meters. We stopped for a quick snack (hubby and I had an apple because all the granola bars were already taken) just past halfway. We parked our rafts at the edge of a 20ft cliff called "Lemming's Cliff" and climbed to the top. They explained how to jump off, then let everyone have a chance to jump. Hubby and I didn't jump. I was a little scared, but I could have been easily talked into it... I just didn't feel like it.

Lemming's Cliff was the last of the big thrills. Shortly after we were met by a small boat that pulled us over to the pontoon boat. It was about 3:30pm when we boarded the pontoon. They had hot BBQ'd chicken, cold rice salad, tossed salad, buns, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and beer waiting to appease our appetites. The pontoon ride took about 40 minutes to take us back to the camp.

There was a camp guide in a kayak who had been filming us for the whole rafting trip. When we got back to the camp they played the video of us. We were going to buy the DVD for *cough* $35 plus tax, but I think I recognized us maybe 3 times on the video. It just didn't seem worth it. Hubby and I each had a single-use water camera and we used up the film on both cameras, so we'll have those pictures for our memories.

It was a great time. We both really enjoyed ourselves. I think we'll have to do this again next year, except next time we'll stay for the night and go white water rafting 2 days in a row. They have cabins and a tenting area. When you buy the 2 day pass you get breakfast, go rafting all day, have the BBQ lunch on the pontoon, and a steak dinner later that night. The second day is similar, except you have to check out before the steak dinner. Everyone, including people with 1 day passes (like me and my husband), are allowed to use all the camp facilities (beach volleyball, horse shoes, beach area, kayaks, canoes, sauna, & hot showers). My husband says that next time we go we are taking the 8-man raft, but that idea makes me a little nervous. lol

We left right after they played the movie, and didn't get home until 6:30pm yesterday. We were going to make tea & hot chocolate, take baths, and maybe watch some TV or a movie. Yeah right!! lol I fell asleep on the couch at 8pm and went right to bed. Hubby followed me a few minutes later. All that fresh air knocked us out! It was a blast though! ;)

We originally planned to go rafting today, but the weather called for rain. I am glad hubby changed our reservations because it is raining and gloomy outside right now. Yesterday was the perfect weather to be out in.
Going white water rafting tomorrow!! Woohoo!! Gotta wake up before 6am. We are stopping for breakfast first because we'll be rafting all day till about 3pm. Hubby says there some sort of BBQ at the end of the rafting trip. And we'll be taking a ride in a pontoon.

Off I go to finish the laundy and make the bed.
Feels great to be up and at work by 6:00am on a Saturday. Yes, I'm joking. lol

So I was reading my friends page, and I see that [livejournal.com profile] nodeg has finally updated. He said I would be surprised when I logged into my account this morning. All I kept thinking was, "Did LJ make changes or something? Or is hubby's surprise that he hacked my account?" I am now a paid member! Yippee!! I haven't even changed anything, and I already like the way the pages work for me.

In honour of it being a beautiful summer morning, and me having a paid account, I present to you my first poll.

[Poll #538112]

Now I have to figure out what other features I have, and how to use them. I want to give my layout a makeover, but I'm not quite sure how. ;)

My balance is all out of whack this morning. My arm is sore because I keep walking into the photocopier. lol A nice little bonus that the car accident left me with... no balance! lol

Hope you are having a great day, enjoying the nice weather. =8D
I wrote a list of things I wanted from Ashton Green. Most of it was on sale in their Odd & Ends section. I asked DH if he would mind picking it up for me. I will be working all week and didn't want to lose out on this sale. I am impressed that everything was in stock, and that he was able to go today... since he did just work the midnight shift. It was nice to come home to this treat. It really made me happy after a lonnnngggg day of work. Here's what I got!!

The news reports: "This is a landmark day for Canadian women, who now have immediate access to Plan B, a safe and effective morning-after pill that has been used by millions of women in more than 100 countries around the world to prevent unintended pregnancy,'' CEO Jonathan Ross Goodman said Wednesday in a release.

Women will be able to pick up the morning-after pill (levonorgestrel) without a perscription. She will not have to visit her doctor first, but the pharmacist will consult her. The pills will be sold behind the counter in the drug store.

Someone compiled a list of online stores that are located in Canada. I thought it was a great idea.

Go check it out!

Terry Fox

Apr. 12th, 2005 01:31 pm
Happy Anniversary Terry Fox!! Did anyone get the new loonie yet?

Terry Fox Loonie

Update
I just ordered 2 online myself. In case you were wondering... each coin is $14.95 (limit of 2 per customer), and $7 for shipping in Canada. For 2 coins after shipping and tax it was $43. Specially packaged in a limited-edition cover, this one-dollar coin was minted at the Winnipeg facility.

I heard on the radio that you can go to the mint here in Ottawa (and Winnipeg) and exchange an old loonie for a Terry Fox loonie (1 for 1, limit of 5), and they are taking donations. Donations they receive through the exchange program go to the Terry Fox Foundation. I am not sure of the condition of the loonies on exchange. Or if they will come in the nice packaging, but I suspect they will not.
